oneTree 2019 exhibition – 16 Nov 2019 to 29 Feb 2020
oneTree 2019 is a big Leaf Maple, over 200 years old and 31 feet in circumference. The tree grew in the Chemainus River Delta in Halalt Territory part of the Coast Salish. Over 70 artists responded to the call-up to give another live to a magnificent big leaf maple tree by creating as much beauty from its wood as possible.

For oneTree2019, eighteenth Century Naval “Campaign” furniture and the work of Christopher Schwarz inspired me to build a table made of two components that would fold flat. During Captain Barkley’s era, such a table would have been easily removed from the Captain’s Great Cabin to make room for the guns when a British Royal Navy ship was cleared for action.
