As far as I can remember, I’ve always been creative. At an early age I learned sewing from my Mom, using her project scraps to fashion clothes for my Barbie dolls. I also remember rainy days of drawing and designing at the kitchen table.
In senior high school I switched to one that had more emphasis on art classes. After graduating I attended 1st year of the Fine Arts Programme at Langara College, Vancouver BC. I then transferred into 2nd year at the Ontario College of Art in Design in their 4 year programme, where I graduated with honours.
Awhile after graduating I returned to Victoria where I took the Cartography Programme at Camosun College. This was mainly handwork being pre AutoCad. I also became a member of the Fairbank Calligraphy Society at this time.
I then started a career with the federal government in Hydrographic work specializing in navigational charts. During this time I pursued freelance work in illustration, cartography and calligraphy. Over the years I’ve expanded my calligraphic knowledge through classes and workshops at home and away. In the last dozen years, I’ve become involved in bookmaking thru members of the Fairbank Calligraphy Society. I’m continually expanding this knowledge thru courses and projects. Now retired, I’m pursuing more unique and fun creations.
