Western Maple, Upholstery: “William Morris” fabric – Willow Bough Minor
Clear “Osmo” wax oil over MINWAX stain (Sedona Red 222)
This chair was created for an existing vanity dresser. As part of my design, I wanted to incorporate an element of Queen Anne era furniture style so began with a cabriole leg. I also wanted to provide more than just the function of seating so added practicality by including two drawers beneath the seat for storage.
Keeping with William Morris’ philosophy, I used hand tools to reproduce the reeds and flutes on the surface to match the existing dresser. The back was hand carved and I completed the drawer dovetail joinery using hand tools. The drawers (on either side of the chair) have a full extension slider made out of maple.
