Case: Red Oak, Laminated ply (Rosewood, Walnut, Satinwood), Walnut, Mahogany
Handle: Alder, Mahogany, Cherry, Walnut
This Fine Furniture Joinery project is used for storing draftings tools.
This instrument case shows four different corner construction techniques: 1/4” finger joint, splined miter joint, keyed miter joint and rabbet joint. The outsides of the case are ply laminated with veneer. On one side, I used rosewood strips to make a tree pattern; and on the other is walnut. The inside has satinwood & walnut.
The handle is a functional compass. The threads, washers and nuts were handmade. I used a router to make the thread and spindle taps for the nuts. The hinges and clasps are also handmade out of wood.
